A sun has fallen from the sky and to hide under the ground. Side by side, pieces fall into place and form an uncertain surface. We have gone down into the underground and uncertainly we are moving out into the world again. Wearing a protective helmet and safety shoes, we wonder what the bunker once was – necessary protection against the world. Now the yellow circle lights up against the cold rough concrete, like the yolk in a butter-fried egg in a silent room; a gong without sound – only the heavy steps up the distorted floor.
In “Distorted Circle”, the circle encloses the viewer’s body but lets the senses and thoughts break out. Trapped in the concrete of the bunker, the “Distorted Circle” lets the viewer wander on distorted surfaces, to find their own orientation points.
Ann Louise Andersen has for many years worked with the encounter between space and the human being entering the space. Sensation, bodily experience and the feeling of being surrounded by a, sometimes unpredictable, space form the core of her work.
