Across cultures, metallic rattling has been considered to drive away spirits or misfortune. The jingling of the tambourine has historically carried this apotropaic role in the context of rituals, where shimmering sound created a protective circle around participants.
In Silver, Stones and Sparkles, visitors are invited to step inside a giant tambourine, controlled by a mechanical system. The tambourine’s jingles, traditionally crafter from rocks, metals and silver, create a sonic choreography. The piece acts as an architectural extension of the bunker, where resonance offers shelter from the spirits of the outside world.
